Ian McCall was supposed to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast that Sunday to talk about his latest injury. Injury that forced him from Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear from my own nostrils. I mean I am literally in the doctors now talking about it. It is exactly what it is, we train hard and I’m fragile apparently. I must pull out of a lot of s**t. It stinks, but if you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing this as long as I do, its part of the game.” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession was only been plagued with accidents and it’s frustrating. This is my chief source of income, I still have other things I do but that is my main source. I’ve got a little girl to feed, I feed my own and it stinks. However, on a different note, this is my enthusiasm; this is what I love to perform. I am 31 years old, I’m not getting younger I have been in struggles for 13 decades. To see my body fail me time and time again it’s hard. It’s one of these things it makes you question a lot. I am such a healthy person, my loved ones is like incredibly healthy, and you know my kid really needs a really strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, which is awful. I am sure I will need to get a hip replacement . I’ve had three hand surgeries. I got into an automobile accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always something, but it is better than having an actual job.” Being Positive and Optimistic”Most of my life I’ve been a pessimist to be honest. I look at it in various ways, it could be worse, I could be dead. I could have lost full use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I consider. I have to keep a positive attitude because I must be a fantastic role model for team-mates and my little one. It is one of those things I am not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I’ll be al right.” Thoughts on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I think that now he has found a bit more power in his punches. His overall game is always changing and getting better. I believe he’ll beat Dodson, is he likely to finish [him]? I really don’t know. I think this is one guy he’ll have difficulty finishing. He ended Horoguchi with one second left, as far as I wish to beat his face , he’s incredible. He’s the precise man you want as winner in regards to performance. I’m likely to go with him on this one for sure.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man that has been enormous. I got overly emotional; I showed the very first round I could definitely beat him. People were like’Oh he’s a bantamweight’ I do not care; the man still isn’t very good I should have overcome him. I believe I showed that you are not going to knock me out even though you’re a huge puncher. My face will split open until you knock me out and that’s precisely what happened. With me it’s outside things, they constantly distract me, woman problems or what have you. I just kind of dropped after that first round. I am smart enough to understand that I was going to lose that fight sitting . Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came about and said hello and I am just kind of like, I’m screwed. This was a psychological thing, that has always been my main downfall. I have a brand new mental coach, he is my mind Sherpa. He is overall made me a better individual. So far as my optimism goes, he is a big part of it” Feeling Overlooked in Flyweight Division”I would not say overlooked, there’s other folks to talk about. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So perhaps I do not deserve to be talked about it. Let’s state this injury is 6 months, they’ll talk about me after that, that is fine. You can find different people that deserve it. It does matter how good I could be or how good I am, it is not my turn. DJ needs individuals to struggle, the division needs people to shake and move and create a big jolt. I don’t mind it, it’s cool, whatever.” Raising a daughter as one dad”Yeah it’s not simple; realistically I do not know anything about women. I know how to get one in mattress that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s going on?’ Don’t cut your hair, do not put soap in areas, like I do not know. Realistically I have a lot aid, I live together with my father. My dad got a divorce, he explained move in, and I’ll help you out. My dad’s retired so he kind of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mom is still about; my daughter’s grandma is around so I do have a lot of help. So I am not going to say I am doing so alone, because I’m not. It requires a village to raise a kid and I got a village of people around me. Even though there are times where I have to take her to the gym, there is always someone there. She’s pretty damn independent I will take her to the beach; she can run about and swim on her own. She is going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I used to work for a fashion design company; the sole real fighters I hang out with are either people I’m forced to hang out my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and stuff. They are hideous, like Jose Aldo stated we look like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is really comfy; clearly Reebok makes a fantastic item. I don’t know who left the layout, regardless of what generation we’re in 80′s 90′s, which does not match anything, it’s just awful. But perhaps I’m wrong; perhaps I’m looking for something a little cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that is all that matters. It’s an evolution of the sport. We wanted it to shine, sure we are not going to get paid that much cash but it is what it is. If you’ve got a issue then quit, these are the amounts we must deal with. Now if you are smart and you can market yourself and promote yourself in ways like I’ve. I have outside sponsors; I’ve Layrite, which is similar to a hair and mustache product. I’ve got a great deal of clothing and lifestyle businesses. I get a good deal of exposure from materials like that. People need to learn t to step away from the boxmake money for themselves and also have a smart agent.” Ideas on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been nice, but at exactly the exact same time they operate a small business. They run a multi-billion dollar company that is a premiere sports league. If you see the machine that is your UFC, in the inside it is incredible. The people are great; the business layout is just remarkable. I would never say anything bad about the way that it’s all operate, it is amazing if you enjoy company. The thing is that they did not have to consult us since it’s their business. We’re a commodity; as far as I want to say cool we ought to be making money like baseball, soccer and basketball. But we’re not and I do not want to quote Urijah Faber, he said’I never got into this for the cash’ frankly I get it, I am a businessman.” Outside patrons”Financially I’m always going to be ok. I’m always going to find ways [to earn money]. I own a portion of a social media company, I own a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, and it is a big charity matter. I have other stuff that’s going to make me money, therefore I’m going to be ok. I really do believe for guys that don’t have much else or guys that are not that smart. But that’s their own fault, figure it out it’s not rocket science” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” series”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I have a developing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we constantly talk about it but it is a tiny bit of a drive from my home with all the traffic.
